The Kansas City club has help many organizations in it's 98 year history. So many it is difficult to name them all. We have always supported causes that help children whether it is equipment to diagnose a speech or hearing disorder or a child that is in need of a warm coat. We have held fundraisers and conducted service projects all over this city. Below is more information about our International efforts. Supported Programs
Communicative Disorders Scholarship: The $1,000 Scholarship is for graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in audiology or speech-language pathology from institutions in the United Stetes. Sertoma provides more funds nationally for graduate level study in communicative disorders than any other single organization.
Hard of Hearing or Deaf Scholarship: The $1,000 Scholarship is for students that have clinically significant bilateral hearing loss. Graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students must be pursuing a four year degree.
Adopt-An-Agency (Affiliates): Are non-profit hearing and speech facilities that have established a relationship with a Sertoma Club or have an independent relationship with Sertoma. This relationship results in greater service to people with communicative disorders by supporting the professional staff and programs of the affiliate.
SAFEEARS!©, our National Service Project was developed to provide a national identity in order to spread our mission and attract new members. With minimal financial outlay and time commitments, SERTOMA SAFEEARS!© was developed. This project can help in fundraising and membership recruitment!
Sertoma Community Support
Volunteer Development: Provides support of the Certified Trainer Program and the trainings for clubs; development of new training materials.
Serteen Clubs: Open to students 11 through 19, in the junior high, middle school, high school or community that promotes growth of individuals, good government, leadership, mutual tolerance and understanding among all people, and friendship and fellowship as opportunities for Service to Mankind.
Collegiate Clubs: Limited to college-enrolled students, this program promotes growth of the individuals, good government, leadership, mutual tolerance and understanding among all people, and friendship and fellowship as opportunities for Service to Mankind.
S.H.A.R.P.: Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycling Program. This program provides hearing aids for low-income individuals.
National Heritage
The Sertoma Freedom and Democracy/National Heritage Program is one of the oldest sponsorships. Three main areas of national Heritage activities include distribution of Historical documents, essay contests for elementary and secondary students and flag displays.
Sertoma's Fundraising Purpose
Supporting Sertoma’s approved charitable and educational programs of our Sertoma Family through effective fundraising, investment of funds and the distribution of proceeds. Through the financial support of Sertoma’s programs, we become the catalyst for greater human understanding and SERvice TO MAkind.
The corporations of Sertoma Foundation and Sertoma International merged in July of 2008. The purpose and activities of the Foundation continue to support the mission and activities of Sertoma and its members.
